For months now, inter-state travel in Nigeria has remained restricted to vehicles conveying essential goods and those on essential duty. This has no doubt, affected the daily lives of Nigerians. However, the government thought it wise to close our state borders in order to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country. Following the news of other countries easing their lockdown due to its negative impact on citizens, the federal government decided to lift ban on domestic flights from Sunday June 21.
With the federal government's decision to suspend the plan for flights to resume from Sunday, we are yet to get any update concerning inter-state travel by roads. But looking at the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country, it may be impossible for the federal government to lift the ban at this point in time. However, many are of the view that the Federal government should lift the ban, but give guidelines that transporters and travellers must adopt. Others are of the view thst our borders should still remain closed at least now that cases of Covid-19 in the country is increasing by the day.
